Rigorous, well-rounded, rooted

Our General Studies Department provides a well-rounded and rigorous academic program that empowers students to excel in both their secular and religious education — critical thinkers, effective communicators and lifelong learners, prepared for the modern world and rooted in their Jewish identity.

Comprehensive curriculum

Our curriculum meets and exceeds state standards while encouraging creativity and curiosity.

  • English Language Arts — a love of reading and writing, diverse literature, complex texts and clear communication at every grade.
  • Mathematics — problem-solving and logical reasoning from arithmetic to algebra and geometry. In grades 6–8, leveled classes place each student in a grade-level or accelerated track; the accelerated track culminates in Algebra.
  • Science — inquiry-based, hands-on life, physical and earth science.
  • Social Studies — history, geography, civics and economics, with an emphasis on civic responsibility and global awareness.

Beyond the classroom

  • Technology — woven into the curriculum, with the principles of responsible digital citizenship.
  • Arts — visual arts, music and performing arts that build confidence and collaboration.
  • Physical education and health — fitness, teamwork and informed decisions about physical and mental health.

Individualized support and enrichment

Every student learns differently. Differentiated instruction challenges and supports students at every level, whether they need additional academic support or advanced enrichment.

Ready for high school and beyond

  • Critical thinking and problem-solving — analyzing complex issues and developing solutions.
  • Communication and collaboration — projects, presentations and group work.
  • Time management and organization — the life skills to manage academic and personal responsibilities.

A balanced approach

General Studies at YAYOE complement and enhance our Torah learning. This dual approach prepares students to navigate the complexities of life with wisdom, integrity and confidence — and our graduates leave with both the academic skills and the moral compass to make a positive impact on their communities and the world.
